He hasn't even been here a week.

The weeman

The name, the meaning and the legend

Oisin (osh + een)

The son of the legendary warrior Fionn Mac Cool and the goddess Sive. His mother was turned into a deer by the Dark Druid and she reared him in the forest until he was seven years old. When Fionn was out hunting he found the child and recognising him as his son, gave him the name oisin "little deer." He is best remembered for his love for "Niamh of the Golden Hair" with whom he spent 300 years in Tir-na-nOg, ("Land of Eternal Youth")

THE LEGEND OF NIAMH AND OISIN

One morning the Fianna were deer hunting on the shores of Lough Lein in County Kerry. They saw a beautiful white horse coming towards them. Riding on the horse was the most beautiful woman they had ever seen. She wore a long dress as blue as the summer sky and studded with silver stars. Her long golden hair hung to her waist.

"What's your name and what land have you come from?" asked Fionn, leader of the Fianna. "I am Niamh of the Golden Hair. My father is king of Tir-Na-nOg," she replied. "I have heard of a warrior named Oisin. I have heard of his courage and of his poetry. I have come to find him and take him back with me to Tir-Na-nOg." "Tell me," Oisin said, "what sort of land is Tir-Na-nOg?" "Tir-Na-nOg is the land of youth," replied Niamh. "It is a happy place, with no pain or sorrow. Any wish you make comes true and no one grows old there. If you come with me you will find all this is true."

Oisin mounted the white horse and said goodbye to his father and friends. He promised he would return soon. The horse galloped off over the water, moving as swiftly as a shadow. The Fianna were sad to see their hero go, but Fionn reminded them of Oisin's promise to return soon.

The king and queen of Tir-Na-nOg welcomed Oisin and held a great feast in his honor. It was indeed a wonderful land, just as Niamh had said. He hunted and feasted and at night he told stories of Fionn and the Fianna and of their lives in Ireland. Oisin had never felt so happy as he did with Niamh and before long they were married.

Time passed quickly and although he was very happy Oisin began to think of returning home for a visit. Niamh didn't want him to go but at last she said, "Take my white horse. It will carry you safely to Ireland and back. Whatever heppens you must not get off the horse and touch the soil of Ireland. If you do you will never return to me or to Tir-Na-nOg." She did not tell him that although he thought he'd only been away a few years, he had really been there three hundred years.

Ireland seemed a very strange place to Oisin when he arrived. There seemed to be no trace of his father or the rest of the Fianna. The people he saw seemed small and weak to him. As he passed through Gleann-na-Smol he saw some men trying to move a large stone. "I will help you," said Oisin. The men were terrified of this giant on a white horse. Stooping from his saddle Oisin lifted the stone with one hand and hurled it. With that the saddle girth broke and Oisin was flung to the ground. Immediately the white horse disappeared and the men saw before them an old, old man. They took him to a holy man who lived nearby.

"Where is my father and the Fianna?" Oisin asked. When he was told that they were long dead he was heartbroken. He spoke of the many deeds of Fionn and their adventures together. He spoke of his time in Tir-Na-nOg and his beautiful wife, Niamh, that he would not see again. Although he died soon after, the wonderful stories of Niamh and Oisin have lived on.

Meltdown

It finally came. I knew I wasn't going to be OK forever, but I didn't think it would happen driving up the Bronx to get dinner. I was super tired by the time we left and felt miserable because I had to get out of my comfy pj's and into clothes that are too small and too tight. D got a text asking how I was and since he was driving he gave the phone to me to reply. Well, that did it. Not even on the BQE and I'm practically in tears over a stupid text.

I managed to not cry until we were up in the Bronx and I managed to not let him know I was crying until we parked. He asked if I was going to come in with him to order and I said "No." in a really tiny, sad voice. He asked if what was wrong and that was it. Full on sobbing. He calmed me down after a few minutes and went in to order, at which time I started again. I was OK by the time he got back until I realized he had gotten me a piece of chocolate cake for dessert to make me feel better. Queue the water works again. I cried all through dinner.

I was OK on the ride home and was going to take a bath to relax. He dropped me off so I didn't have to walk all the way up the street since there was no parking. I got into the apartment, took one look at the bed and my pj's, realized how tired I was and burst into tears again. I changed, got into bed, pulled the blankets over my head and sobbed.

The plan

I don't like the plan, but it's a plan. This is all assuming I don't go into labor on my own, which to me seems unlikely. I am operating under the impression that this is the way this pregnancy will end.

Monday, March 23rd: I am scheduled for an ultrasound and 20 minutes on the fetal monitor. They are going to measure WB, check my fluids, monitor the heart rate and a couple of other things. If they find no reason to induce, I go back again on Thursday the 26th.

Thursday, March 26th: Same as above.

Monday, March 30th: If I haven't gone into labor by this point, they are going to induce, since I will be 2 weeks past my due date. This is D Day.

I am not really happy about it, but what choice do I have? My doctor would prefer not to induce due to the greater possibility of a C-Section and I agree. At the same time, I really want to be done. Another 10 days of this is not something I think I can handle.

Hopefully, I'll go into labor on my own and I won't ever have to think about the plan. Somehow, I don't think that will be the case. I am fairly certain I will be induced and I would almost bet that will happen on the 30th and not before. We shall see.

40 weeks, 3 days

Updated pics I took for BPF. I figured I'd post them here too, since the ones from yesterday were not the most attractive.

39 week belly pic

Let's hope the next one is much smaller than this one.

Bedding

The long awaited pictures!

Swing

All the pieces. It was about this time that I started to wonder if I was in over my head.

I got the frame together fairly quickly. This was actually the hardest part and it wasn't really all that difficult.

Nearly done!

The whole thing all together.

A close up of the mobile.

Stubborn baby

This child is no longer head daown, as you can see. On the left there? Yeah, that is my child's ass. The head is over to the right. More proof that this baby wants to come out a different way.

9 days until my EDD. There is no way it is going to happen before that date.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

So the bedding is on! I am way to tired to go take a picture, but I'll put some up this weekend, I promise. I also put the swing together all by myself and I'll post pics of that as well.

Wedding pics, Part 2

Soooo, in the new city clerks building, they have this picture on the wall with good lighting, that you can use to take pictures in front of prom style. Of course, there was no way we could let an opportunity like that pass us by...

This is me looking like a house and D ever so subtly pointing out the reason for that.

My sister and I.

All four of us.

Wedding pics

Trying to look serious.

Time for the rings.

It's over already!

Actual, legal proof.

Evidence

Well, here it is. Proof I am married. We were laughing our asses off the whole time. More to come later, but I figured I'd post this gem up for now.
